Street Fighter 5 is a game that will be fresh for many months and even years to come thanks to plans for updates throughout the year and long into the future. The game was missing a few features at launch, but Capcom has vowed to patch in these modes and more for the players. In addition to adding these features, Capcom will also be adding characters about every month.

- Street Fighter V - A Shadow Falls: The Cinematic Story Mode can now be downloaded for free. It is a 4 hour long experience full of CG cutscenes and includes all six DLC characters (and the rest of the Street Fighter warriors) playable. Juri and Urien, who have not been released yet, are currently only playable in this story.
- Ibuki & Balrog: After delays pushing her back Ibuki will finally be available to play. Joining the fight in the same update as the street fighting ninja is Balrog, the prized pugilist of Shadoloo. Both characters will set you back 100,000 Fight Money each.
- Alternate Stages: The Shadoloo Base, Kanzuki Estate, and Forgotten Waterfall will all get alternate versions (changing the time of day most notably). Each can be purchased individually for 40,000 Fight Money.
- High Roller Casino & Kanzuki Beach: Balrog's stage from Street Fighter 2 has been brought the modern world of Street Fighter. On top of that a beach stage has been added to herald the start of summer. Both stages can be bought for 70,000 each.
- Zenny Removed: Due to extensive testing, Capcom has decided to not implement Zenny after all. Instead, players will be able to buy the content they desire through the PlayStation Store or Steam. Check the DLC page for updated information on pricing. More importantly, Alex and Guile will no longer be on free trial and you'll need to purchase them for 100,000 Fight Money or for $5.99.
- Battle Costumes: All characters released at this point will also see their premium Battle Costumes go on sale. This update is also doing away with the Zenny system entirely so you must spend $3.99 for each costume you desire. All Story Mode costumes will also now be unlocked to purchase with Fight Money immediately rather than requiring completion of their Story Mode.

Street Fighter 5 Patch Notes
- Guile: The character Guile will be available to try out on a trial period for everyone until an update that implements Zenny. He will then be available to purchase for 100,000 Fight Money.
- Airbase Stage: Guile's famous stage from Street Fighter 2 (with the theme that goes with everything) will also be available for a trial period until Zenny is implemented.
- Gameplay Fixes: A few bugs have been addressed to improve the gameplay experience.

- Alex: The character Alex will be on a trial period for everyone to try for a limited time. He comes with his own character story content. He will be available at the In-Game Shop to purchase for 100,000 Fight Money when Zenny becomes available to purchase.
- In-Game Shop: DLC Character (100,000 Fight Money) and Story Mode costumes (40,000 Fight Money) will be available to purchase via the In-Game Store option on the main menu. Zenny will not be implemented until a future update.
- Apologies: In addition to a free trial of the new character, Alex, Capcom is making Ryu and Chun-Li's story mode costumes free for everyone as a way of saying thanks for being patient during the game's launch.

- Challenge Mode: Added in this mode that was previously unaccessible on the main menu. In it are Trials (10 different combo challenges for each of the characters) and Demonstrations (tutorials for players of all skill levels as well as character specific tutorials).
- Ranked Match / Casual Match: Added in the option to challenge your opponent to a rematch in a best of 3 set as long as both players agree to.
- Battle Lounge: Increased the size of lounges from 2 to 8 so that while two players battle the others in the lounge may spectate the fights and wait until they're next in line to fight.
- Gameplay Fixes & Balancing: Fixed it so that you always get EXP from casual matches and that unlocked colors don't become lost when restarting the game. There is also specific changes to a few characters. For most characters, jumping up or back has gone from 3 to 4 frames. Globally, changes were made to throw escapes to make it harder to escape.
